Chilli Farm

Bart Spices has invested in a space on a chilli farm to grow our own organic chillies.

The Upton Cheyney Chilli Company is based on a farm just outside of Bristol and has been growing chillies since 2009.

The hot chilli seeds are germinated in January, followed by the mild seeds in March.  Both are then moved to a special poly-tunnel to grow.  The conditions of the poly-tunnel replicate the natuarl climate conditions that the chillies would grow in out in the wild.  The harvesting of the chillies takes place between July and December.

Bart has decided to grown 7 different varieties of chilli.  Below are pictures of these chillies with a description further down the page.

Alma Paprika – a very mild chilli that resembles an apple, with a warm flavour, as opposed to hot.

Bulgarian Carrot – a hot chilli with a fruity flavour.  Matures to look like baby carrots.

Elephants Trunk – a type of Cayenne that resembles the snout of an elephant.

Fatali – a type of Habanero, strong fruity flavour with a citrus twang.

Hungarian Black – a flavourful mild – medium heated chilli.  Matures to a dark burgundy colour.

Nadre Veija – a strong fruity flavour, some suggest the taste resembles an apple.

Naja Jolokia Indian PC1 – a traditional chilli shape which has a very hot flavour.
